Dear Hope

Hello,

You and I have been acquaintences for some time.   In the preceding years after my birth,  I will admit  that at times our relationship has been stronger than others. However, you have never completely waned from my Life. Nor have I ever given up on you completely.  After I nearly died from an unexpected stroke, and once the fog that enveloped my brain had lifted, I needed you more than at any other time. Feeling like a ship adrift  at Sea, I discovered that when I began to look for you as if for Land, you did not leave Me. In fact just as  Earth’s crust has been steady underfoot for eons, you too did not falter.  Rather (to paraphrase Jane Eyre) it was as if during the darkest night of my Life  you had traversed  in my sleep and left each morning  brighter traces of your steps.  The Day any person loses you completely, I’m convinced it will be the death of their Soul. Because, you bring  light that helps piece the shards together of any broken mirror.  You rouse one out of bed when they’d rather not face the Day. You inspire positive thoughts and outlooks  for the future.  Without you, I daresay we’d all be lost. Lost to overcoming. Lost to  the ability of drumming up strength. Lost to   trying  in spite of insurmountable odds. Lost on the idea that a rising tide can lift ALL ships. Hope, I don’t know if YOU realize  how important You are. And my wish is that  Humanity always comes to your doorstep when they find themselves in need. Because, I know that whence they knock the door is surely opened.

Thank You.

“You realize that our mistrust of the future makes it hard to give up the past.”

― Chuck Palahniuk.

We’ve got to look forward and keep moving, not  delving  into the past.  This is especially hard if you  have fears about what the future holds.  As a  stroke survivor I found that  even my worries had worries.  It was  that much harder to think of the future not only because of fear, but  also because my heart was stuck in the past. We  must not let our hearts be offended. Why? Because,  taking offense(at someone or something) keeps us in a place of pain and inhibits our growth. If we choose to live in a place of unforgiveness we’ll become  that much more cold,  and hardened, the good things of life cannot grow or flourish in  rocky soil! Therefore, we need to let go of the past and of those  things that hold us back.  For what seems like ages I’ve lived in my past. Because quite frankly, having my independence was far better than my current   bleak reality.  However, I am no longer the person that I was, in fact none of us are. To remain the same would be to stunt our growth and limit ourselves. No matter what happens to  you remember that “ You are not a victim but a victor!”   In trying times it’s easy to get stuck in the former “better,” situations of our past. However,  you must continue  swimming forward or even in some cases treading water. Because, if you stop to consider the past too deeply, the weight of it will not only tie you up but cause you to sink. By remaining in my past I missed the good things in my present. The good news is, it’s never too late to begin moving forward. Indeed the sooner the better, and making a habit of it isn’t a bad idea either. Therefore, do not stop to consider your past for too long or too often. Far greater things lie ahead!

Cheers!

Don't look back in anger.

unfiltered_anger_by_louisdyer-d5pjsm9

You will not be punished for your anger, you will be punished by your anger.”

-unknown.

Why me!? Well, why not me? This is the question and answer many  give themselves, who have suffered a catastrophic event or injury. It’s undoubtedly understandable to be angry in such  bad circumstances. However, it’s not always helpful or healing. While anger can help you break out of something(depression)or help you overcome it,it  can also hold you back. Anger can anchor you in the past, or create unrest in your heart and mind. What you believe in is very powerful and  will dictate the direction in which your life  goes. Therefore, play  the right mental movies for yourself. Films that portray you as the victor, times of happiness, and  positive plot lines. These  mental movies can stir up  courage, hope, and strength  or place fear and doubt in your heart. When the movies that you play yourself are the opposite of fear and doubt, it opens the door for peace to enter your mind and heart. “A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body”(Prov. 14:30nlt). If you find yourself in a hospital bed don’t take the situation lying down. Instead,  screen films in your mental movie theatre of  improving health, happy moments, and the day of your eventual discharge. Also, when dealing with a sickness be careful not to get anchored in the past for too long. Instead, keep your thoughts positive, the movies victorious, and your eyes forward.  Your dreams can and will become a reality  with a positive, and strong attitude. Not to mention, dreams don’t have to remain in the  thought realm, dreams and life are meant  to be experienced!

cheers and onward!

tell me what you want

Do you really need to burden yourself down with another material item? For the majority of Americans, and females, shopping could be considered a sport. However, it’s a shame to live in a society that espouses material gain as being so desirable. If you have ever seen the movie Shopoholic, that was me. If you haven’t, I can sum it up for you. Girl lives in New York City,

purchases  way too many unnecessary objects, goes into major debt, realizes it’s a sham, and makes a major life change, this is also me.

images-6I cringe when I  see the outrageous prices of things that people are all too willing to purchase. For example, a pretty book of eyeshadow selling for nearly $90.00! (on Ebay)   My goodness, you only have one face, how much makeup do you really need for it!? The more you own, the more you become a slave to  your belongings. Most of the time, the things you want aren’t  really what you need.

For some more wealth brings more security. However, that’s nearly akin to worshipping your stuff. If your not careful, you could begin to make material objects or money your God. Not to mention  this type of God brings with it bondage, and can enslave you. The more  wisdom I get on what really matters, the less and less material items hold value  to me. Because, in the big picture, I’d rather have complete health than a brand new beautiful bag. If it isn’t serving you, but rather your serving it, it’s time to reconsider buying it in the first place. You work hard for the money, so make it work for you. Besides, that money truly does look better in the bank than on your  arm or feet. When life hits you with a reality slap, suddenly all those things that once were desired, tend to be put into perspective. Money is a tool, not something to be subservient to. Indeed credit cards will certainly make you a slave as well. This is an oft quoted and followed scripture-

Romans 13:8(KJV)       Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.   This is great advice for  us all, because debt can only weigh you  down. Therefore, avoid debt and you will certainly feel lighter. This applies to material goods as well, because the less you have, the less burden will be on your back Instead of immediate gratification( or short term) consider the long term and your future goals.

keep your goals in mind!

“You can never plan the future by the past.” -Edmund Burke.

It’s no secret  that psychics, fortune tellers, and tarot card readers  are a sham and this is why I believe that. Because, as humans We have a mystical tool that allows us to shape our  futures, a little thing  called choices. However, many things occur to us that We did not choose, but even so you can still choose your perspective. Even when  circumstances seem particularly bleak, you can choose to see the glass half full. If We could actually see  the future, surely it  would change or improve upon the decisions We  do make. Therefore, many people seek out  someone(or something) to help guide them on the  path towards and through  this unknown future landscape. Our need to know or control   all  aspects of our lives  brings in  the worrying thoughts, repetitive condemnations, questions, and  fear. All this  can culminate  into a visit to a  psychic. However, they  are no more knowledgeable about the future than you are. This is comforting, because not  knowing the future, means that anything is possible! Certainly  knowing the future would have  reassured my Parents when I was in the ICU of a hospital. Because there was no way at that present moment they could see this from where they sat    inside my hospital room.

Even the Doctors, whom so closely monitored me  at the time did not predict this. As  you can see, the future is unpredictable by most if not all. This is good news, because it indicates that the future can radically change. When nothing is certain, anything is possible. Sometimes, you just have to let go, as much as you want to hang on. In letting go of absolute control, you allow peace to enter and  can more readily enjoy the ride. It’s when I let go   that  I was able to let myself be surprised. If you can   negate   our human  need to have control, you may  just find  some contentment, and peace of mind. In no way am I suggesting you fall like a leaf into the wind. Just that by releasing some of the burdens of  striving it  will allow  more life to happen to you, rather than you happening to it. In  doing so, you’ll be headed to your goal with less strife. Not to mention, if life was  predictable it would be lackluster and unchallenging. It is in our challenges, that We find what were truly made of, and  surprise ourselves. It’s in the unscripted pages of time that We find  the many paths available to us. Be sure to tune into that small  still voice inside, and follow the path  that brings you life!

embrace the  possibilities,
